The Jones Family have been builders since the beginning of the 20th Century.
T.J. Jones, an Irish immigrant, moved to Port Arthur in 1911. He immediately became established in the construction business and launched the Jones Family into the industry. His expertise lay in the civil side of construction such as excavation, blasting and concrete foundations. He left his mark on many well-known City of Thunder Bay landmarks including the PUC (Whalen's Building), the Port Arthur General Hospital and the Black Bay free span concrete bridge
(one of the first in North America).
In 1948, his son, T.A. Jones, took over the helm and continued the tradition of building many of Northwestern Ontario's landmarks, including Lakehead University's first building and four of the five building contracts for the Shebandowan Lake Mine.
In 1965, the third generation took control, Tom and John Jones. Since then the two brothers have successfully built the company and today are regarded as one of the leading construction companies in Northern Ontario.
